Research visit to Osijek
Martina Bobinac has conducted field and archival research in Osijek, Croatia from 25 till 29 April 2024. The research covers the case study of the reconstruction of Osijek in 1965 after the flood that hit Slavonia earlier that year, with focus of the research is emergency management after natural disasters. Archival research was carried out in the State Archives in Osijek and the University Library of Osijek. Field research was conducted in Osijek's JUG II district, i.e. V. district, one of the neighborhoods built in Yugoslavia in the 1960s after natural disasters, where a settlement of prefabricated low-rise buildings was incorporated into the urban plan of the city.
The research is carried out as part of the project DIGitART – Digital network, spatial and (con)textual analysis of artistic phenomena and heritage of the 20th century, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU and is part of the PhD thesis Urban and housing reconstruction models after natural disasters in Yugoslavia and the global South 1962–1972, mentored by Tamara Bjažić Klarin, PhD.
