Cvito Fisković Centre
About the origins and the scope of work
The Cvito Fisković Center in Split is a subsidiary of the Institute of Art History in Zagreb, founded on June 1, 2010.
The Center cooperates with a network of relevant related institutions in Europe and America on a daily basis and was therefore able to deliver a series of scientific and professional symposiums and colloquiums as well as a number of important monument conservation studies and projects over a short period of time. The activities of the Center are further visible through a series of articles, studies and books produced by its researchers, which have been published in scientific and professional publications since its founding.
Furthermore, the launching of the Mediterranean Center for the History of Art within the branch of the Institute of Art History in Split is foreseen in the near future, which will further secure the Institute’s position within the international network of scientific institutions in the field of art and cultural history.

- “Where East meets West”: Travel narratives and the fashioning of a Dalmatian artistic heritage in modern Europe (c. 1675 – c. 1941)
- From local to regional. The Art of Adriatic Croatia from the Middle Ages to the 19th century
- Dalmatia – a destination of the European Grand Tour in the 18th and the 19th century
- Connecting Art Histories programe supported by Harvard and the Getty Foundation: From Riverbed to Seashore. Art on the Move in Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean in the Early Modern Period (2014 – 2015)
Conferences
Since 2015, the Center has been organizing once a year the Discovering Dalmatia program – a week of scientific and professional lectures, which brings together prominent experts who focus their research interest on the cultural heritage of Dalmatia and the Mediterranean.
